It’s called Amalthea and has a radius of only 52 miles (84 kilometres), which is roughly 20 times smaller than our own Moon. However, we should not be misled by its diminutive size; scientists claim it’s the reddest object in the solar system, emitting more heat than it absorbs from the Sun.
According to NASA, Amalthea has a potato-like shape and lacks the bulk to form a spherical shape. It orbits the enormous planet inside Lo’s orbit, the innermost of the planet’s four largest moons, and completes one orbit every 0.498 Earth days.
According to Space.com, various explanations have been proposed by scholars. A theory examines how Amalthea receives heat from Jupiter both directly and indirectly. Furthermore, heat may be generated by tidal pressures within Amalthea caused by Jupiter’s tight grip.
Amalthea is frequently overlooked in scholarly discourse, with its significance overshadowed by that of its four larger enormous siblings. Previously, the Galileo spacecraft discovered several surface features such as impact craters, hills, and valleys.
