Halloween Night horror : At least 151 people die in stampede in South Korea

The stampede occurred at the Itaewon entertainment area in the capital Seoul on the evening of October 29, killing at least 151 people and injuring 150 others. Emergency services said the incident happened at about 10:20 pm (local time). According to eyewitnesses, chaos broke out just minutes before the stampede began, and police on the spot struggled to control it as the crowd grew increasingly violent and angry.

According to videos on social media, hundreds of people who were cornered in a narrow, steep alley were pinned down, motionless while police and emergency workers tried to pull them out.

Other videos showed rescuers and residents desperately trying to save some of the victims who appeared to be unconscious.

This is the first year Seoul has reorganized Halloween after 3 years of applying restrictions and social distancing against the Covid-19 epidemic. Authorities said they were investigating the cause of the incident. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol chaired an emergency meeting with senior advisers.
