The Richelieu Depot hosted a symbolic ceremony on February 10, 2022, that witnessed the unveiling of a Metro Express train that bears illustrations showcasing the Mauritius-India bilateral partnership. This was done as part of the celebrations marking 75 years of India’s independence- Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The event was graced by the presence of eminent personalities including the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Alan Ganoo; the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Nandini Singla and the Chief Executive Officer of Metro Express Limited, Das Mootanah, among other dignitaries.
This special train wrap intends to be a visual treat that demonstrates India’s development partnership with Mauritius over the decades, India’s goodwill towards Mauritius and the nation’s capabilities in delivering large-scale, top-notch infrastructure projects that boast of reasonable costs. It also expresses the gratitude of Mauritian authorities and people towards the Government of India for being the nation’s strong pillar of support over all these years.
This occasion also celebrated art by announcing the winner of the painting contest launched by High Commission of India to celebrate the 5 million ridership mark of Mauritius Metro. A prize cheque of Rs. 10,000 was awarded to the winner.
