INDIA : Russian-made missile air defence system to be purchased by New Delhi

India will buy Russian S-400 anti-aircraft systems, despite possible US sanctions. On Tuesday 5th June, India and Russia have indeed reached the final stage of negotiations for the purchase of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 Triumf, despite possible US sanctions.
India believes that in all of its commitments to USA, it has clearly explained how the Defence cooperation between India and Russia has been prevailing for a long time now. High Indian authorities have also pointed out that the Law against US adversaries, through sanctions, cannot affect this bilateral defence collaboration between India and Russia.
As a matter of fact, India has already been obtaining numerous defence resources from Moscow and most probably, such cooperation would continue with the S-400 agreement, estimated at $ 5.5 billion. Russia is India’s largest arms supplier, accounting for not less than 62% of New Delhi purchases in the past five years, according to the Stockholm International Peace Institute.
However, it is still possible that the administration of President Donald Trump punishes New Delhi for making important transactions with the Russian Defence. According to international laws, these transactions are prohibited by sanctions.
