14 people, including members of a Kolkata vigilance team, were rescued after a lift collapsed at Hindustan Copper Limited’s Kolihan mine in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district on Tuesday night.

Eight people have been rescued from the mine, with the remaining six being saved from the lift.

Overnight rescue operations recovered the personnel trapped at a depth of 577 metres in the Kolihan mine. The rope of the shaft or ‘cage’ broke just as they were about to come up, trapping roughly 14 policemen, according to authorities.

There were nine ambulances at the entry point, and the rescue effort began Tuesday night.

Dr. Pravin Sharma of Jhunjhunu Government Hospital stated, “All of the persons trapped in the mine were successfully evacuated. Three of them were in serious condition and were taken to Jaipur.”
