A 33-year-old Australian tourist allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a forest situated in Bodh Gaya. Locals of the Bodh Gaya’s Rajapur area stumbled upon the hanging body, which leads to panic in the locality. The deceased has been identified as John James Allan Heath from Australia. A note beside the dead body mentioned a phone number. Heath was a resident of Westmead, a suburb in Sydney who came for a two-day trip to India.
Bodh Gaya, located in the Indian state of Bihar is considered to be a revered Buddhist pilgrim and is flocked by thousands of tourists and pilgrims from all around the world every year. The suicide note that was found beside the dead body mentioned an Australian phone number and appeal to pass on the message about the death to Heath family. They also found a bag and a water bottle beside his body.
The police suspected this to be a case of suicide and investigation is been done further as the body has been sent for postmortem in Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital.
The police haven’t ruled out the case of murder and are exploring all the possible angles. Earlier this year, a Japanese woman was gang-raped in Bodh Gaya closer to the site where Heath was found hanging.
