A fire at a lithium battery manufacturing business outside South Korea’s capital on Monday killed at least nine workers, injured four, and left 15 more missing, according to officials.
The fire at the factory in Hwaseong city, just south of Seoul, was initially discovered to have killed one person and injured four others, two seriously.
Rescue workers later discovered eight more remains at the factory, bringing the total number of deaths to nine, according to local fire official Kim Jin-young, who spoke on television.
Jin-young stated that the majority of the missing people were foreign nationals, notably Chinese, adding that the missing people’s mobile phone signals were tracked to the factory’s second floor.
According to South Korean media, the fire was extinguished in large part. The specific cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
According to the fire official, the factory had 120 working staff when the incident occurred.
